Car shipping with Rivalane has two payments, and the timing of each is written into our Terms and Conditions.
Rivalane's fee: due when a carrier accepts your order
Placing an order costs nothing. Our fee becomes due when a carrier accepts your order, because at that point we have done the work we are paid for: pricing the route, finding a vetted carrier with the right equipment and dates, and assigning your vehicle to it. Until a carrier accepts, you can cancel at no cost.
The carrier's balance: due on delivery
The balance for the transport itself is paid to the carrier, not to Rivalane, on or before delivery. Carriers accept cash, certified funds, cashier's check or money order made out to the carrier. They do not accept personal checks, debit cards or credit cards at the truck, so arrange the funds before delivery day.
What should make you cautious elsewhere
A company that asks for a deposit or full payment before any carrier has been assigned is charging you for work it has not done. Ask any broker when its fee is due and what happens if no carrier accepts the order.
Your order confirmation states the quoted rate and how it splits. If anything on it looks different from what you were told, ask before a carrier is assigned.
